Now, we're into April (already???!!!) Time for me to report on my essay reading for March and prepare for a month of classics.
I finished only the Woolf essay book in its entirety, but managed to read essays by a range of authors, including Berlin, Emerson (Self-Reliance) and Didion. I wish I could expound on Emerson as eloquently as Dorothy W. or Stefanie, but, alas, I simply feel to harried to think that deeply. (Even as I type this, I must hurry off to my third meeting of the day.)
Heading into the classics month, I narrowed my choices to two:
1. In the Shadow of Young Girls in Flower by Marcel Proust
2. Portrait of a Lady by Henry James
Holy cow, that's a lot of reading! I am looking forward to them both.
In other reading notes: Just started The Making of Victorian Values by Ben Wilson. I am going to try to fit this in with my classics reading for the month. Cross your fingers that my eyes hold out!

I love both Proust and James, but have never finished all the vols. of Proust"s ..remembrance... each year i say--maybe next year. James is one of my fave authors. Enjoy.

Hi, Chedwick, can't wait to get into James. I was frustrated by him and then, after Turn of the Screw (which I read last fall), got hooked. Just cracked open Portrait -- even the preface is intriguing.
Nonanon, thank you for your well wishes. I have Didion's collected nonfiction and dabbled in that. I always loved Slouching Towards Bethlehem and The White Album.
Estella, I loved Swann's Way, and I hope that the next volume is as wonderful.
Those sounds like wonderful choices for April! I love both James and Proust, and the Ben Wilson book sounds quite good too.
The ending of Portrait is really a wow. I don't think his last three novels are any harder, just different.
