Friday Buzz - Didion on Broadway

This is either going to be really, really bad or really, really good. Plus: Vanessa Redgrave. Minus: The theatre may have to close the balcony so people don't jump off of it.
Now, if YoMT is ever made into a TV movie starring Mary Tyler Moore -- then it will be official that Didion has sold out.

Jumping off the balcony, ha! Thats funny LK.

From what I've heard of the book, I suggest they frisk people for razor blades and prescription drugs as well.

I am currently reading A Year of Magical Thinking and can't imagine it being translated into a theater production. We shall see!

I'll have to check out some Didion soon. I cannot really recall any of her stuff, but am sure I read a few essays--I dated a guys who was passionate crazy fantatical about her writing, so I know I did read some--but it was decades ago. This site is really good I am starting to make booklists again which makes things easier at the shops and Library.

I just got the book in the mail last week and I'm planning to start reading as soon as I finish something else (ha ha, that could take me awhile) but from what I've read about it, it doesn't seem to be an instantly translatable text to theatre - interesting indeed!

I heard a lot about the stage production of it. Joan Didion seems to have some input as well. It may not be that bad. I'm curious about it actually. In fact, I believe there are people who read Year of Magical Thinking as a love story.

Could work.

I must admit I can't quite picture this one onstage. However, since I have lately become one of those annoying fans who thinks Didion can do no wrong, I'm willing to bet maybe it will be good.
(tee hee, by the way, your balcony line IS very good.)

I had to read this book in one go it was too depressing for me. I think you are right--it is either going to be wonderful, or well, too depressing...
