"The American Haiku is not exactly the Japanese Haiku. The Japanese Haiku is strictly disciplined to seventeen syllables but since the language structure is different. I don't think AmericanHaikus (short three-line poems intended to becompletely packed with Void of Whole) should worry about syllables because American speech is something again...bursting to pop. Above all, a Haiku must be very simple and free of all poetic trickery and make a little picture and yet be as airy and graceful as a Vivaldi Pastorella."
Jack Kerouac
(partial Haiku, Jack Kerouac)
Early morning yellow flowers,
thinking about
the drunkards of Mexico.
No telegram today
only more leaves fell.
Nightfall,boy smashing dandelions
with a stick.
Holding up my
purring cat to the moon
I sighed.

Congrats on the award! I have been popping in on your blog now and then for several months. It is quite refreshing to me to "hear" someone "talking" about much of the same literature I love, and some I have not yet gotten a chance to read. I spend all day teaching high school English, and appreciate any chance I get to delve deeper into reading material than I can with my students (not to criticize them, many are very intelligent, just not as well-read...).
Thank you! I look forward to visiting your blog...and hearing more from you in the future. Debate away, I say!
Your blog is really amazing. Good luck with it.And Happy Birthday Jack Kerouac.
Peep into my blog on friendship greeting cards for some beautiful e-greeting cards and friendly tips.
I am linking you, Happy Birthday Jack-- I started celebrating on the 11th and I'm going thru the 14th just as you would...
The Source (1999) (a film by chuck workman)
Starring Dennis Hopper as Allen Ginsberg
***Johnny Depp as Jack Kerouac***
John Turturro as Wm. S. Burroughs
I saw this when it came out and it was great. It never hit many theaters though. All of the actors do an admirable job.
Review from Rolling Stone: " A Must-See. Illuminates decades of Bohemian Activism"
DCB, never heard of that film (and I thought I heard of 'em all)...definitely checking it out. I don't even care if it's crappy, the casting is too cool for words.
